I was born and raised in Bloemfontein Mangaung, slap bang in the middle of South Africa.
Like most teenagers who have been stationed in one place for a great majority of their life, I longed to leave my so called 'one horse town' and explore what life was like beyond the metaphorical walls van Die Vrystaat. But even with a great sense of wanderlust I always knew that no matter where life led me, I would always come back home and retire here. I have a great deal of love for the place that moulded, loved and shaped me and my views.
When ever you go beyond the borders of the Free State, you are most likely to be asked, "what is there to do in Bloemfontein?".
And one is often stumped as to what can be recommended. Not because there is nothing to do here but because that question always causes a slight brain spasm and one you can never think of fun activities to do on the spot! Thus people always assume that Bloemfontein has nothing to offer beyond biltong, khaki shorts and a penchant for unique and colourful swear words.
So join my friends and I as we discover all that Bloemfontein has to offer.
